April 8 - Betfair, one of the world's leading online betting companies, with
a customer base of millions around the world, has signed a deal with the
Australian TAB, TOTE Tasmania - the first of its kind in the country. The new
deal will make Betfair the company's official online agency and distribute its
brand around the world.
Betfair Corporate and Business Affairs Director, Andrew Twaits said about the
partnership: "We'll be distributing TOTE Tasmania products to our customers
worldwide. What that means is that Betfair customers will be able to bet
directly on TOTE Tasmania products directly through their Betfair account."
Twaits stressed the convenience element of the new deal. "There will be a
single log-in, a single interface and a single account, so no transferring of
funds" he explained. "The convenience factor that we're announcing today is
compelling."
The CEO of TOTE Tasmania, Craig Coleman, said that both companies, as well as
the Tasmanian racing industry will benefit from the new deal. It is estimated
that over $10-million a year will be collected for the industry, with some of
the profits already earmarked for infrastructure development in Longford and
Devonport. The state coffers will also undoubtedly benefit.
"When you add this to TOTE Tasmania's own plans for growth, the additional
funding will help to secure the future of what is already a strong and vibrant
Tasmanian racing," explained Coleman. "It is worth noting that Tasmania is the
only jurisdiction in Tasmania whose licensed wagering companies are allowed to
advertise in the UK. Betfair already has more than one million registered
customers in the UK which it can market Australian racing to immediately."
