March 27 - Since the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was signed
into law in October 2006, the United States Department of Justice has placed
several top online gambling executives, who are wanted for questioning in
'illegal' online wagering activities and 'fraud', onto their watch list.
The State of Louisiana has taken the watch list one step further and issued
warrants of arrest for a large number of online gambling bosses, who, as a
result are scared to put a foot down in the state, never mind the entire
country.
One of these 'suspects' on the American watch list is none other than the
Bodog Boss, Mr. Calvin Ayre himself - the flamboyant Canadian millionaire
businessman and philanthropist, who founded the hugely successful Bodog
Entertainment Group in 2005. Ayre, who resides in Antigua, has not been able to
enter the United States since the UIGEA kicked in, for fear that he may be
arrested by authorities.
However, this summer, Calvin Ayre is quite desperate to attend the wedding of
a close colleague who is tying the knot in a traditional Jewish affair in New
York State this coming summer. The question on everybody's lips is whether
Calvin Ayre will risk a trip to the United States, or whether he will have to
make do with satellite presence only as he did at recording artist, Billy
Nafked's wedding last year.
A few months ago, it was hinted at that Antigua may seek to have the warrants
of arrest against internet gambling moguls dropped by the Department of Justice
as part of ongoing negotiations in a bid to settle a conflict between the two
countries over online gambling. Then it was stated that many executives cannot
even make connecting flights to other countries in case they were arrested.
However, nothing concrete has developed from these talks.
