Online Blackjack Strategy

The following basic Blackjack strategy is applicable when playing regular online Blackjack. Because there are many different online Blackjack games and variants produced by different online gambling software developers, this strategy may not apply to all.

In due course we'll look at the different strategies as per the various online Blackjack variants and game types.

To begin, set minimum and maximum bet amounts and stick to them. When you are on a winning streak, double your bets on each winning hand until you reach your ceiling or maximum bet amount. If on a losing streak, play the minimum bet only.

Regarding the best hands to 'hit' on, always hit on a 'soft' 17 (a 'soft' hand contains an Ace that represents 1 point) if the dealer's up-turned card is a ten, and on a 'hard' 12 (a 'hard' hand contains an Ace that represents 11 points) if the dealer's up-turned card is a two, three or seven.

It is also a good idea to keep on 'hitting' to reach at least 17 (or bust) if the dealer's up-turned card has a ten value.

In terms of the best hands to 'double-down' on, if your initially dealt cards add up to11 and the dealer's show card is anything but an Ace then double-down. Double-down if your hand adds up to 10 if the dealer's show card is anything but a ten or Ace.

Doubling-down is also a good idea if you're holding a 9 and the dealer's show card is a three, four, five or six.

When it comes to 'standing', always stand on hard 17 or more if the dealer's show card is seven or under, as well as on a hard 13, 14, 15 and 16 if the dealer's show card is six or under. If you have a hard 12 or above in your hand and the dealer is showing a four, five or six, definitely stand.

'Splitting' pairs can be a great opportunity to increase your winnings. The rule of thumb is to split 2s, 3s, 8s, and Aces if the dealer is showing a two, three, four, five, six or seven. Also, split 8s and Aces if the dealer is showing an eight, nine, ten or Ace. Bear in mind never to split 10s.
