Online Craps Rules

To begin with, Craps is an online casino table game that is controlled by a single pair of dice. In short, players bet on the outcome of the pair of dice which are thrown by a fellow player who is given the name of 'Shooter'.

Now there are many different types of bets that players can bet on and it is a good understanding of the odds of these bets that differentiate between an average and good online Craps player.

A player who becomes the Shooter' throws the dice for the first time in what is called the 'Come Out Roll'. Before the Come Out Roll, players can bet on what are called 'Pass Line Bets'. These are bets placed on actual numbers being thrown or rolled.

Throwing a 7 or 11 means that all Pass Line Bets win. Throwing a 2, 3 or 12 means that all Pass Line Bets lose. ('Craps' actually refers to these numbers). All the remaining numbers on a dice (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10) are called 'The Point'. If one of these numbers is rolled, that number become known as The Point until a new Shooter is appointed.

When The Point is set, the online Craps dealer places an 'On' button above The Point number on the table. The objective of online Craps is for the Shooter to roll The Point again before rolling a 7. If the Shooter rolls a 7 it is known as an 'Out 7' (different from the 7 mentioned in the Come Out Roll).

Should the Shooter throws an Out 7, the round is over and the Shooter and the other players (all who betted) lose. If the Shooter throws The Point, he and his other players win and the round is over.

However, if the Shooter throws any number other than the Out 7 or The Point number, the round continues and the Shooter keeps throwing the dice. Now you really need to concentrate as we look at the most popular bets available in online Craps:

Pass Line Bets - A bet placed on the Pass Line before the Come Out Roll. If you place a Pass Bet you are in effect betting with the Shooter that he or she will throw The Point before an Out 7. Pass Bets pay 1:1. A Pass Bet is often called a 'Right' bet.

Don't Pass Line Bets - A bet placed on the Don't Pass Line before the Come Out Roll. If you place a Don't Pass Bet you are in effect betting against the Shooter that he or she will throw an Out 7 before The Point. Don't Pass Bets pay 1:1. A Don't Pass Bet is often called a 'Wrong' bet.

Come Bets/Don't Come Bets - These are essentially the same as Pass Bets/Don't Pass Bets except they are made during a round and not before the Come Out Roll.

Odds Bets (Pass Odds/Come Odds/Don't Pass Odds/ Don't Come Odds) - These are like 'back-up' bets to the Pass Bets/Don't Pass Bets/Come Bets/Don't Come Bets already placed on the table except that they pay off on the 'true' odds.

Odds Bets are normally limited to two or three times the size of a player's original bet. Unlike the bets discussed thus far, Odds Bets that are 'unresolved' can be removed from the table by players during play.

Pass Odds and Come Odds pay 2:1 on 4s or 10s, 3:2 on 5s and 9s, and 6:5 on 6s and 8s. Don't Come Odds and Don't Pass Odds pay 1:2 on 4s or 10s, 2:3 on 5s and 's, 5:6 on 6s and 8s.

Place Bets - These are bets based on the premise that the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will be thrown before 7. Place Bets are not placed for the Come Out Roll. Each set of numbers pays out differently. For example, six and eight pays out 7:6, five and nine pays out 7:5 and four and ten pays out 9:5.

A Place Bet based on the premise that a 7 will be thrown before a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 also pay out different amounts. For example, six and eight pays out 4:5, five and nine pays out 5:8 and four and ten pays out 5:11.

Buy Bets - These are similar to Place Bets in that a bet is placed that The Field will be thrown before a 7. With Buy Bets, however, players are charged 5% vigorish (vig). The vig is returned to the player should the bet be lost or removed. Winnings are paid out according to 'true' odds: sixes and eights pays out 6:5, fives and nines pays out 3:2 and fours and tens pays out 2:1. Buy Bets are inactive during the Come Out Roll and may be removed if unresolved.

Lay Bets - These work in the same but opposite way to Buy Bets. In other words, the bet is placed that a 7 will be thrown before The Field. Winnings are paid out according to 'true' odds: sixes and eights pays out 5:6, fives and nines pays out 2:3 and fours and tens pays out 1:2. Lay Bets are inactive during the Come Out Roll and may be removed if unresolved.

Hardway Bets - These are bets that a particular or selected number will be 'rolled hard' before a 7. For instance, Hardway Bets incorporate the numbers 4, 6, 8 or 10 so a Hardway Bet on four means throwing a double 2, for six a double 3 etc. Unresolved Hardway Bets can be removed. Hard fours and tens pays out 7:1 and hard sixes and eights pays out 9:1.

Proposition Bets - These bets are located in the center of any Craps table. Much like Hardway Bets, they are 'single' roll bets. A '7 Bet' bets that the very next throw will yield a 7. A winning 7 bets pay out 4:1. An '11 bet' is placed hoping that the very next throw will yield an 11. A winning 11 bet pays 15:1. An 'Any Crap Bet' pays out 7:1 and is applicable to the numbers two, three and twelve.
