Online Video Poker Rules

If you are familiar with the basics of regular poker, you will able to play online Video Poker in no time. In essence, online Video Poker is a cross between regular table Poker and Video Slots.

Video Poker games are developed by top online gambling software developers such as Microgaming and Playtech.

As such, there are many different Video Poker games and variants to choose from including Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild, 2 Ways Royal, Aces and Faces, Megajacks, Double Joker, Supajax, Jackpot Deuces, All American, Aces and Eights and many more.

While the rules will vary slightly from game to game, the basics of online Video Poker are the same. The game is usually played with a single 52-card deck from which you will be dealt a 5-card hand.

The Video Poker game will then give you the option to 'Hold' or 'Discard' one or all of your cards which will then be replaced with fresh cards as dealt by the dealer.

The objective of online Video Poker is to make the best possible 5-card hand or combination to win the highest possible payouts as specified by the game's payout table.

So, a round of online Video Poker begins when you enter the number of credits you want to play (the maximum bet will guarantee you the highest payouts if you make a winning hand).

When you click the 'Deal' button you will automatically be dealt 5 cards. You are then given the option to hold or discard any or all of them.

If you choose to discard any cards, they will replaced with fresh cards. Then, if your 5-card hand shows a winning combination, the game will alert you of this and your winnings will be credited to you.

The higher your hand, the bigger your winnings. Below is a list of the highest to lowest (and highest to lowest paying) online Video Poker hands:

Royal Flush - Five same-suited consecutive picture cards and ten - Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of Hearts, for example.
