Whenever information is transmitted over the internet, there is the chance, although nowadays, a miniscule chance, that the information gets into the wrong hands. For this reason, there are still many consumers who prefer not to utilize their credit cards or e-wallet solutions for distributing funds online. It seems that the popular alternative of choice then, is bank wire or transfer. I decided to give this payment method a try so that I could relate my experiences to you and let you know what the process entails.
Firstly, I contacted my bank to establish what was required. I was told that I needed to visit my nearest branch to effect the bank transfer, and to bring with me the intended recipient's IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and BIC (Bank Identifier Code). I then went online and contacted my online casino's support centre for the required information.
After some pretty annoying traffic, I arrived at the bank, filled out a transfer form and then stood in a long queue before finally issuing my payment instruction to the bank. I was told that the process would now be for the bank to transfer a secure message via an inter-bank telecommunications network such as SWIFT or Fedwire, ordering the receiving bank to affect the payment instruction. When concluded, the receiving bank would inform my online casino that the funds had been cleared and my gaming account would be credited. And it was. Three days later!
I understand that this is the best way to ensure that confidential financial information is kept secure, and that some banks will even authorize money transfers telephonically, but I personally do not have the patience to wait three days before I can enjoy my favorite slots. But for me, the most frustrating thing, is that bank wires and transfers are really rather expensive at £20 for deposits under £10 000. (If I had wanted to expedite the transfer to 24 hours, it would have cost me double.) I would much rather take my chances with alternative online payment solutions than utilize a bank wire again. So far, I have not encountered any safety issues using my credit card, and at least I am able to tackle the progressive straight away!
