Caribbean Poker

Much the same as regular poker, Caribbean Poker requires that players place an ante in order to be dealt cards. At online casinos, the ante is determined by the player, but there is usually a maximum wager limit. Once the ante has been placed, the player clicks deal and is issued five cards. The dealer receives the same number of cards, but only one is dealt face-up for the player to see. The player then assesses his cards against the dealer's face-up and determines his course of action.

In Caribbean Poker, the aim is to secure a hand that trumps the dealer's. If the player likes the hand he is dealt, he places a bet that is double his ante. The dealer then reveals his remaining four cards and the winner is determined by the highest value hand. In order to qualify, the dealer needs an Ace and a King or higher. If he fails to qualify, the player is reimbursed his ante and bet. If the dealer's hand equals the player's, it is termed a "push" and the player retains his ante and bet. If the dealer's hand is strongest, the player loses both his ante and his bet. If the player's hand beats the dealer's, the player is paid on his bet according to the hand achieved and the ante is paid 1:1. The standard win payouts for Caribbean Poker are as follows:

  • 1 Pair or less: 1:1
  • 2 Pair: 2:1
  • 3 of a kind: 3:1
  • Straight: 4:1
  • Flush: 5:1
  • Full House: 7:1
  • Four of a kind: 20:1
  • Straight Flush: 50:1
  • Royal Flush: 100:1

Sometimes, casinos offer a progressive side bet on their Caribbean poker games, and if the player chooses to play this option, they are paid quite substantially according to the progressive win chart for hands higher than a flush. This bet makes the casino a lot of money since top hands are difficult to secure, but many players have literally "kicked themselves" for not participating when dealt a Royal Flush.

Generally in Caribbean Poker, there are only two major strategies to adhere to. Always old if you are unable to beat the dealer's Ace/King or higher and always bet if you have a pair or higher.
