The Poker Stars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour drew over 236 players from
all over the world this year, with thrilling action spread over four days.
The competition was eventually won by Rennie Carnevale, who pocketed
the top prize of $165,900 for beating all other players in the $3000 No Limit
Hold 'em Main Event.
From the initial 236 players, 122 survived to enter the second day and only
37 were left by day 3. After seven hours of play on day 3, nine players were
left to enter the Final Table on day 4.
The final table had a number of top players, including WSOP Main Event
winner, Tony Hachem.
Hachem, who was poised to win the ANZPT, was eventually dropped in seventh
place, removing a major hurdle for Rennie Carnevale.
The final results were as follows:
1: Rennie Carnevale; 2: Andrew Scarf; 3: Octovian Voegele; 4: Michael
Sellers; 5: Daniel Neilson; 6: Bill Argyros; 7: Tony Hachem; 8: Aleksander
Brkovic; 9: Todd Butcher.
The total prize pool for the ANZPT was $644,280 and the second place winner,
Scarf, took home $105,980.
The 21 year old Carnevale almost didn't play in the Main Event, after he was
nearly on the plane back to Sydney when he received an
email from Poker Stars to confirm his entry into the competition using FPP
points.
