A very lucky Sydney resident is unaware that he or she is $30 million richer
after winning the prize in the OzLotto draw on Wednesday.
The NSW Lottery confirmed that while the winner hailed from Sydney,
nobody had come forward to register the ticket.
"We are looking for an Inner West player that is now worth $30 million, and
it is likely they don't know yet," said John Vineburg, speaking for NSW
Lotteries.
"This entry was not purchased using a NSW Lotteries Players Club card, so we
have no details about the winner," he said.
The hectic time leading up to Easter Weekend may have changed the routine of
some lottery players who usually check the winning numbers religiously.
"We normally see these tickets checked pretty early, usually in the afternoon
or the following morning," said Vineburg, "but maybe with the long weekend it
could be even longer."
The lottery group would also not reveal the name of the ticket outlet where
the lucky ticket was purchased but it said that it had already contacted the
news agency "under the clock of silence".
This will be NSW's second largest lottery payout ever and the winner will
receive all the money, tax free.
If the player eventually comes forward, the money could potentially be in his
or her bank account within a fortnight.
"This is the last day of the public ownership in NSW lotteries, so it is nice
to have the second biggest prize we have ever sold," said Vienburg.
Since the NSW Lotteries launched nearly 80 years ago, it has paid out more
than $13 billion to Australians.
