While Australian lottery players are used to massive jackpots, lottery
experts believe that 2012 will be a particularly lucrative year for
ticketholders.
This weekend will see the first Lotto Superdraw of the year being held and
players stand the chance to win a $20 million guaranteed jackpot prize.
Other Superdraws are being planned for Saturday March 31st, Saturday May 12th
and Saturday June 30th, the latter offering a guaranteed $30 million Division
One prize to lucky players.
The Chief Executive Officer of Lotterywest, Jan Stewart noted the growing
trend of Australians to purchase lottery tickets ahead of these big draws.
"Some new players are coming into the game, and overall that means we can
offer a higher superdraw program, which is what we call these big draws," she
said.
Nobody can tell exactly how big the Australian lottery payouts could
become, however the more people who buy lottery tickets, obviously the bigger
the prizes become.
However, few are expecting Australian lotteries to reach the proportions seen
last year in Spain, when the biggest world lottery up for grabs reached a
staggering €2 billion ($2.5 billion)! That said, Aussies haven't done too badly
themselves with the biggest sum offered in the country's history was the $106
million Oz Lotto jackpot in 2009, which was shared by two winners.
Buy Tickets for Saturday Lotto Superdraw
There is still time to purchase tickets for tomorrow's
(Saturday, February 11th) Saturday Lotto Superdraw with a guaranteed $20 million
up for grabs.
Eight balls are drawn from 45, with the first six being winning
numbers and the last two being supplementary numbers.
The odds of winning the Saturday Lotto by matching all six
numbers are one in 8,145,060.
Lottery experts were asked this week to offer tips that would
help increase players' chances of winning a grand prize. Statistician Professor
John Croucher noted that if one doubles the number of players, the amount of
prize money in general also doubles, and therefore twice as many people win
prizes.
Other than buying more lottery tickets, Croucher says that there
is one more way of really increasing one's chances of winning a prize.
"If you pick numbers like 17, 18, 19, 20, which are running
numbers, many people don't think they're random, so there'd be fewer people who
would select something like that," he said.
Saturday Lotto Superdraw lottery tickets are on sale online and
at lottery retailers across the board in Australia.
