Tomorrow, March 31, will see one of the biggest draws on the Australian lottery calendar, when the $21 million Superdraw is held.

The Superdraw is one of several bigger-than-usual draws held around the year and is part of the regular Saturday Lotto schedule.

Lotterywest is selling tickets to this huge lottery jackpot, and players still have time to put themselves in line to win.

In order to get their hands on the big prize, players need to match six winning numbers, and the odds of winning are 1 in 8,145,060.  While these may seem like impossible odds, remember that you don't buy a ticket at all, your odds are zero.

Eight balls in total are drawn from 45 and the first six drawn are considered winning numbers. The last two drawn are the supplementary numbers.

There are six prize divisions in the Saturday Lotto, and naturally the more winning numbers that players have, the bigger the prize.

Don't miss...

Landing five winning numbers and a supplementary number carries odds of 1 in 678,755, while five winning numbers have odds of 1 in 36,690. Players have odds of 1 in 733 to get four winning numbers and 1 in 298 to get 3 winning numbers and one supplementary number.

There are 1 in 144 odds to get one or two winning numbers and two supplementary numbers.

$21 Million Lottery Superdraw tickets can be purchased from retail outlets or online through state lottery organisations such as Lotterywest.

Lottery Fever Sweeps New Zealand

In the meantime, New Zealand is also swept up by lottery fever as their Saturday draw jackpot reaches $26.8 million.

According to a spokesperson for New Zealand Lotteries, ticket sales were "double, compared to an average week" by players keen to get their hands on the Powerball's third largest prize in history.

Kiwis are looking for ways to increase their chances of winning, and have looked at statistics of former winners to see what fueled their wins.

According to these stats, the luckiest city in New Zealand is Auckland and its surrounding areas, while those with a Taurus star sign seemed to be luckier than others.

The largest Lotto prize ever awarded in New Zealand was $36.1 million and was won by a family syndicate in Masterton in 2009.
