After an incredible week of lottery fever which gripped Australia, the
massive Oz Lotto jackpot was finally hit.
Three lucky winners will share the $75 million prize, each scooping $24.9
million in one of the biggest lottery wins in Australian history. All in all, a
$119.6 million Oz Lottery pool was split between 2.2 million Australians.
The three winners, who hail from South Australia, NSW and Victoria
respectively, have still not stepped forward to claim their prizes, and,
according to a spokeswoman for SA Lotteries, they may not even know that they've
become instant millionaires 25 times over.
"Sometimes with mid-week draws, people forget to look at their ticket until
they go in again on the Saturday to buy a new ticket," said Louise Azzopardi.
"You would think people would have checked their tickets, but it may be that
they know they've won but are laying low".
Oz Lotto Caused Lottery Fever in Australia
This past week saw Australians all but stampede lottery agencies in a bid to
get their hands on a ticket and win the grand prize of $75 million.
Between 4 and 5 pm on the evening of the draw, tickets were being sold at an
incredible 7600 entries a minute. In fact, some retail stores saw people
standing literally 50 deep in order to buy their tickets.
Lottery websites struggled to keep up with the traffic but didn't report any
significant glitches.
On the night of the draw, millions were glued to their TV sets as they saw
the lucky numbers 17,.8, 28, 34, 41, 42 and 6, and supplementary numbers 4 and
19 drawn.
Australians are now waiting to see who the lucky $75 million Oz Lotto
jackpot winners are and when they will step forward to take home their loot.
The next Oz Lotto draw takes place on Tuesday, May 15th and while its jackpot
may not be $75 million, there aren't many Australians who would turn their nose
up at winning $2 million!
